About Ashley Coia
Ashley (she/her) is a multifaceted creative force. Celebrated as an award winning director, she is also a sensitivity specialist, dramaturg, actor, and theatrical artist. Equipped with a BFA from New York University’s esteemed Tisch School of the Arts, Ashley honed her craft in the musical theatre department at the prestigious New Studio on Broadway. Following her studies, Ashley worked professionally as an actor in New York City and regionally. Here she cultivated a passion for developing new works and originated many roles. Her regional directorial debut captivated audiences, winning her a Broadway World Award for Best Director in a Musical, along with nominations for Best Choreography and Best Musical for her work in Spring Awakening.
Ashley is committed to creating spaces where artists feel seen, heard, and valued: where risk and trust coexist, and where artistry and humanity are recognized as inseparable. She rejects the notion that artists must suffer for their craft, instead fostering environments rooted in collaboration and joy. She embraces a process that prioritizes excellence and community care through embedded consent-based practices, advocating for mental well-being, driving from a dramaturgical perspective, honoring the text, and creating human-centered spaces. Theatre, at its best, is a radical act of community care, and it is in that spirit that Ashley continues to learn, create, and evolve as an artist.
